The Parental theory of Paradox.

I don't know what rouge pairing of synapses caused this theory to jump near fully grown into my head but it seems to me to be as good a thought as any as to the WHY of Paradox.

In the end, We are all children of the universe. and when we misbehave the universe has to punish us.for most sleepers and hedge Mages and faith wielders the simple expedient of karmic balance is usually more than enough to keep them from misbehaving too badly. after all they are the "younger" children and don't know better.

Ah but the Mages...The Mages are the "older" children. and as such,ought to know better. The best way I can describe it is to liken one's paradox rating to the amount of annoyance that you've built up with the universe at your antics. Build up to much,too fast,(pulling sister's hair,setting something on fire, or having a number of the younger children "Tattle" on you...) and you will get spanked. It doesn't matter what you do. If your mom says "when we get home you're getting a spanking." Sooner or later, you are GOING to get that spanking.

Sometimes you can keep the universe from getting too pissed with you by being good,by cleaning up after yourself, or by turning on the Cute like a searchlight.(I.E. taking paradox flaws.Most of which I find are good for a few yucks, nothing gets the universe off your back like making it laugh.)

Sometimes, the universe gets upset with you because of the way you're acting and says,"that's it! I've had it with you! Go to your room and don't come out until you can tell me what you did wrong!" (I.E. an episode of Quiet.)

Sometimes, you do something so bad that you get sent directly to bed.(paradox realm)

Paradox Storm? Well, to put it the words of Bill Cosby, " My wife picked up a yardstick. Stood like a Samurai warrior,and loudly declared "THE BEATINGS WILL NOW COMMENCE!", and these squabbling, brain damaged children have the nerve to look surprised!"

We all know how it works.

The Technocrats rarely act up. It doesn't seem to matter how mean they treat the other children just as long as they don't make any damn "noise" Technocrats are like mean siblings who never get caught and who drive you batshit with that " I'm not touching yooooou!" crap.

Nephandi are like the really bad seeds. they get caught, and often are punished very harshly but it usually just serves to make them meaner.

Sleepers and Hedge Mages are the baby of the family. when they are upset,they wail and cry and they universe bends over backwards to pacify them just because they want the house quiet again. They Tattle.and the Marauders are the original wild children that the universe has given up on trying to rehabilitate and just tries to keep out of it's hair.("Go play outside! you're giving mommy a headache.")
