TEARS OF THE LORD
INTRODUCTION
A lot of things bring tears and sadness to our lives.
We meet and experience things that cause us heartache and pain.
Many of us today are filled with great sorrow. We have people
in this life close to us. We do not want to hurt or
disappoint them, because we love them so much. Yet we are
not concerned about grieving the heart of God.
This lesson will look at the tears of the great God of heaven.
I do not want God to be disappointed and cry because of me. The
Bible does teach that there are things that causes
God pain and tears.
Genesis 6:6 God was grieved it repented God that he made man and he was grieved in his heart
There are times that God is grieving and sad. If you will look
you can see God is crying and heart broken.
John. 11:35 Jesus wept.
Our lord cried at the occasion of the death of lazarus.
Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
This passage tells me that I can upset and cause God pain. Here we have
God, Christ and the Holy Spirit, sad.
Many of the inspired men of the Bible cried
Psalms 119:136,158 Streams of water flowed down his cheeks,
he was grieved that people would not observe the law
of God.
What is making God cry today?
Genesis 6:5-6 " And Jehovah saw that the wickedness
of man was great in the heart and that every imagination
and thought of his heart was only evil continually and it repented Jehovah
that he had made
man on the earth and grieved him at his heart."
We certainly must be a disappointment to God in our attitudes.
The way we feel about others, the church, and his will must disappoint
God The way we gripe and complain
must disappoint and grieve our God bitterly.
The sins we think and devise in our ,must sadden him tremendously.
The way we act toward holy things is also
disappointing.
All the killing, violence, and robbery in this world is a great shame, and disappointment to our holy God.
All the sexual immorality and perversions must make him sick and sad.
The Bible says that the way human beings acted made God grieve.
Man is acting worse than animals when it comes to our morals. God
repented he even made such a creature as man.
Repentance calls God to cry
Not in anger or sadness but in happiness and joy.
Judges 10:16 And they put away the foreign
gods from among them and served Jehovah, and his soul
was grieved for the soul of Israel.
God felt the emotions of grief for Israel here. He was happy in their devotion, but hated to see the misery of his children.
God is not a old being in the heavens looking to rejoice at our misfortunes.
God is not out to hurt us he wants to help
and save us.
Luke 15:11-32 The rejoicing over the prodigal son returning.
Judas repented for his actions because he got caught not because he meant it from his heart.
A man getting caught repentance because he is exposed not because he is sorrowful.
LUKE 17:3-4 "Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother
trespass against the rebuke him; and if he repent
forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day
turn again to thee, saying,
I repent; thou shalt forgive him",
We need and must forgive people who repent of sins.
Luke 23:34 "Father, forgive them; for they know not
what they do".
Don't put people in a pan, on a flame and keep the heat on them .
Forgive and forget the sins and wrongs
when people repent.
Heavens angels rejoice over the lost that repents.
Stop grieving God by remaining in sin.
REBELLION CAUSES GOD GRIEF
Psalms 78:40 "How oft did they rebel against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert."
The children of Israel grieved our God by their rebellion. How
long will we continue to rebel against God. Why do we
rebel and cause him pain and agony by our actions.
Every sermon I hear, I want book chapter and verse
I want to be taught the saving gospel of Christ. I do not want to rebel I want to know what God wants me to do!
James 1:21 "Receive with meekness the engrafted word which is
able to save your soul".
Psalms 95:10 " Forty years long was I grieved with that
generation and saith it is a people that do err in their
heart and they have not known my ways".
when we leave the faith and err in ignorance and rebellion, we cause God pain.
Matthew 22:29 " Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do
err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the
power of God".
Jeremiah 10:29 "It is not within man to direct his own
steps".
Isaiah 5:13 'Therefore my people are gone into captivity,
because they have no knowledge: and their
honourable men are famished, and their multitude is dried up with thirst."
People were lost because they have erred. People do not know the commands of God.
It is very sad that many people in the church don't know if Jesus died
at calvary or at Waterloo.
That is very sad indeed. They have no idea about the will of God because
they never study their Bibles!
Hosea 4:6 "My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge".
Please don't change and err from the five avenues of worship.
Prayer, Acts 2:42
Preaching, Romans, 1:15-16
Taking the Lord Supper every Sunday, Acts 20:7
Giving of our means every Sunday, I Corinthians 16:1-2
Singing songs to his name, Col. 3:16
Do not err from the five steps of salvation
Hear, Romans 10:17
believe, John 8:24
Repent, Luke 13:3-5
Confess, Romans 10:10
baptized, I Peter 3:21
How dare we err and change God's word.
God is not on a stage, he is on a throne and we worship him. God
does not look for performances
he looks for worship.
Matthew 15:9 "In vain do they worship me teaching for doctrines the commandments of men".
We need to be reverent and fervent in worship to God.
When We Become God's Enemy He Cries
Isaiah 63:10 " But they rebelled and grieved his
holy spirit therefore he was turned to be their enemy and
himself fought against them"
God fought against his own people that turned from him. I do not want to fight God. I do not want him to be my enemy!
I assure you we can become the enemy of God,
James 4:4 "The friendship with this world is enmity with God."
Philippians 3:18 " For many walk of whom I have told you often,
and now tell you even weeping, that they
are enemies of the cross of Christ".
Enemies of God ,are the enemies of the truth.
Galations 4:16 "Have I therefore become your
enemy because I tell you the truth".
We become God's enemy by rebelling against his word and doing what we
want instead of what God commands.
Judgement Causes God Grief
Luke 19:41 'and when he draw nigh he saw the city and wept over it'.
Jesus cried and wept over the the judgment that Jerusalem would receive, because of their rebellion and disobedience.
II Corinthians. 5:10 "We must all appear before the
judgment seat of Christ and receive of the deeds done in the
body whether they be good or bad".
God has no pleasure in our judgment, but we will all be judged.
The great white throne is universal, final, and just.
The experience of judgment does not give God pleasure.
The Cost Of The Cross Caused Him To Cry
Matthew 27:46 "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with
a loud voice saying, eli, eli, la-ma sa-bach-tha-ni, My
God my God why hast thou forsaken me".
When I think of what Jesus paid on the tree. The pain there at
Calvary saddens me. For my sins and my
weaknesses caused his agony.
Jesus died so that we could have, redemption, salvation, and eternal life.
Jesus gave his shoulder to carry the cross. His cheeks to be slapped, his face to be spat upon, his hands and feet to be pierced.
Jesus gave his mother, his clothes and his life, everything for you and me.
I don't know of a more ingrate than a person that doesn't think about
the cost of the cross.
A HARD HEART CAUSES GOD TO GRIEVE
MARK 3;5 "And when he had looked round about on them with
anger being grieved at the hardening of their heart
he saith unto the man stretch forth thy hand and he stretched it forth
and it was restored."
The hardness of their heart made Jesus grief.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the older christians told the elders they love and support the way you are standing for the truth.
Parents let our young people know we support the elders and want them to know we love and appreciate the way they care about our souls.
Acts 2:37 " They were pricked in their hearts."
Death caused Jesus to cry
John 11:35 "Jesus wept".
When we carry loved ones to the grave we are not alone.
Isaiah 38:5 "I hear thy prayers and see thy tears."
God cares for us. He knows what death is. He watched men kill his son. God cares for us.
Death is sad, express our feelings, find friends and don't become reclusive. State your feelings, attend church services, don't worry about what might have been, trust God and pray a lot.
Jesus cares when our loved one dies.
THE CROSS MADE GOD CRY
HEBREWS 5:7 Who in the days of his flesh having offered
up prayers and supplications with strong crying
and tears unto him that was able to save him from death. And having been
heard for his
godly fear.
The son of God cried,
Luke 22:44 "His sweat became as it were great drops of blood."
He was in agony!
Prayers and supplications were made with strong crying and tears.
When I see the cross by faith, I see the love of Christ, the horror of sin, and the need for salvation.
What will your answer be, what will you do with him? . Some denied him, some betrayed and deserted him.
What will you do with Jesus?
CONCLUSION
There are other things that makes God grieve but these are a few to
consider today.
Are you a christian today or will you make God cry for your soul?
What more do you want from Christ? He died for you!
