Mission Statement

Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center is a private, non-profit agency that provides services to victims of domestic violence and rape in Sarasota and DeSoto Counties. SPARCC services include: 24-hour hotline, a shelter for battered women and their minor children, family safety planning, professional, individual and group counseling., advocacy, case management, information and referral, transportation, a children's program for children who have witnessed or experienced domestic violence, and a transitional housing program.

In addition to services to victims SPARCC offers an educational/therapeutic program for people who batter. SPARCC also provides community-wide educational programs and training for law enforcement personnel, medical professionals and volunteers who assist victims of domestic violence and rape.

Since SPARCC was created in August, 1979, professional staff and trained volunteers have been on duty 24 hours a day answering calls for help from victims of domestic violence and rape. To date, 39,698 calls for help have been answered . Those who benefit directly from our services are the many victims of domestic violence and rape, their families and their abusers.
