Filament 1851
Purpose of Web Page
Filament 1851 can be described as being straight to smoothly curved and having a length of 100-300 µ and a width of about 0.8 µm. They are vaguely Gram negative--some parts of the trichome may stain Gram positive while other portions may stain Gram positive. It is Neisser negative. Any attached growth will be perpendicular to the trichome. A sheath is present in 1851 but is not discernible as in other filaments because of its thinness. Individual cells of 1851 are rectangular (0.8x1.5-2.0 µm) and the trichome will have a tendency to grow in bundles.
