Purpose of Web Page

The purpose of this web page is to present the physical characteristics of a filamentous bacteria that is present in wastewater.  Beggiatoa is one of the few filamentous bacteria that is motile, the other is Flexibacter.  Beggiatoa spp filaments can probably be best identified by their ability to glide and move across the bulk solution. This Beggiatoa has sulphur granules within its cells. Attached growth is uncommon. Beggiatoa has a cell width of 1.0-3.0 µm and filament length of 100-500 µm.
