GOULD
Sarah C., widow of the late Amos Gould, died at her home on
West Main Street last Tuesday in her 86th year.
The funeral was held on Tuesday conducted by Rev. Bartz, who
in his remarks stated that she joined the Presbyterian
Church in 1838, and had been a member longer than any person
now living except her sister, Mrs. Russell White. At her
request the funeral service was brief.
She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Almira White and Mrs. James L.
Green of this place; also a brother in the west. Her husband
died some 20 or 30 years ago. There (sic) two children,
Warren and Imogena, died some years ago. Warren's widow
lives in Washington, D.C., and has six children. Of of these
children, Mrs. Daugherty, of Washington, and Walter were
here at the funeral; also Walter's wife. Walter lives in
Franklin Township, this county. Amos Nims, also of Franklin,
a nephew of the late Amos Gould, was at the funeral
accompanied by his wife.
Mrs. Gould's maiden name was Downer. She lived here all her
life. The family has been one of the most prominent in town.
Mr. Gould was a leading businessman. Mrs. Gould had great
force of character, was independent and outspoken. She
always evinced great interest in Sunday school work.
By her will the bulk of her property goes into the Security
and Trust Co. Bank, of Erie, for 20 years, and then to be
divided among her grandchildren. R. M. Greer and G. A.
Hampson are executors of her will.
