Sebastian's last name as recorded on the certificate of
baptism is spelled with two s' (Rooss). However, the last
names of his parents, Johann Konrad Roos and Veronida
(Herdmann) Roos are spelled with one s.

Sebastian became a tax commissioner and about 1820 went into
kurhessische service, also as a tax commissioner, and
acquired a house in Homberg/Efze. Homberg/Efze is not to be
confused with Hamburg(Homberg), the seaport from which many
Germans emmigrated to the United States. Homberg/Efze is a
small town SSW of Kassel, Germany in the Hess-Darmstadt
District.
