Acount by Karen Parker: "In 1725 when John was 18, he
married Mary Madden, in Granville District, Orange County,
North Carolina (some say his wife was Eleanor Madden; I
haven't seen documentation for either, and would love to
hear from anyone who has documentation). John was appointed
constable in Orange County, North Carolina, in March of
1753.[ref] In October of 1754, John was granted a license to
keep an ordinary (an inn) in his house.[ref] On 2 August
1768 John West sold property to his son Isaac's
father-in-law, Peter Anderson, and that is the latest record
I know of placing him in Orange County. On 14 Oct 1774, John
West bought land on a branch of King's Creek in Tryon
County, North Carolina (which encompassed land which was
later in York District, South Carolina). [ref: Orange

Quarter Sessions, Part I, Folio 3, pgs. 3 and 42.]"
