Jane Collins died in Greenville County, South Carolina on 9
November 1849, in her 86th year. She is buried beside her
husband, her grave marked by a marble slab with the
following inscription: "To the Memory of Jane Austin, wife
of Col. Wm. Austin. She was born Jun. 23rd, 1764. Died
Nov. 9, 1849. A member of the Meth. Esp. Church, she was a
faithful and devoted wife, and an affectionate mother, a
sincere friend and an indulgent mistress."

In her letter to Jack and Eleanor Brown (postmarked 18 SEP
1994), Jeane (Mach) Fulmer, states that her grandfather
James Chapman Marsh had been priviously married, and had 2
or 3 children by that first wife, prior to his marriage to
Miss Davis. Jeane's mother, Ruby (Marsh) Mach told Jeane of
meeting the children for the first time at her father's
funeral.
