Mrs. H. K. Daugherty Dies in Meadville
The former Mabel Gould, of Elm Street, died early this
morning in the Meadville City Hospital. She had been
spending the Thanksgiving season with her daughter's family
in Meadville and suffered a stroke early this week.
Mrs. Daugherty was born in Washington, D.C. December 14, a
daughter of William Warren and Alice Clark Gould of
Washington, D.C. and Manassas, VA. She was the granddaughter
of Col. Amos Gould of the banking firm of Blain-Gould and
Short of North East.
She was married to Harry K. Daugherty Sept. 6, 1899, in the
Church of the Epiphany after which the local Episcopal
Church was named, and following her marriage came to live in
Grove City where her husband was a practicing attorney. Mr.
Daugherty died in 1945.
Mrs. Daugherty was active in civic and church affairs and
was appointed by two Pennsylvania Governors on the Mothers
Assistance Board of the County in which post she served for
eight years. She also served for eight years as president of
the Grove City Hospital Auxiliary and in 1955 was made an
honorary life member of the Auxiliary.
She was a charter member of the Daughters of the American
Revolution, General Hugh Mercer Chapter, of Grove City.
While living in Washington while Mr. Daugherty was Assistant
Solicitor of the Treasury under Presidents Coolidge and
Hoover, Mrs. Daugherty was vice-president of the Republican
Women's Club for eight years. She also served as vice
president of the Pennsylvania State Society in Washington
and was co-editor of the Republican magazine. Active in
social circles in the capital city, she numbered among her
particular friends the late Dolly Garner.
Mr. & Mrs. Daugherty lived for six months in Havana, Cuba,
while the former was a Deputy Attorney General assigned to
special work.
Mrs. Daugherty is survived by a daughter, Mrs. D. G. Murray,
(Helen), of Meadville, five grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren; a son, Harry H. Daugherty, of Grove
City, and a sister, Mrs. Henry W. Roos, now in Naples,
Italy.
Funeral services will be held in the Church of the Epiphany,
West Main St., Sunday at 3:30 p.m., after which the body
will be removed to Washington, D.C. Burial will be in the
Arlington Naitonal Cemetery. The Rev. Ralph Hoven Kamp,
Trinity Episcopal Church of New Castle, will preside.
Friends will be received at the Shelley Funeral Home
Saturday evening.

There is some debate as to the father of William
Wilbor/Wilbur. the authors of The Wildbores of America
acknowledged the debate, and evidence which implies that
William was most likely a nephew of Samuel Wilbore, the
original Wilbore emmigrant to this country. Nevertheless,
the authors chose to list Willam as the son of Samuel, in
recognition of the very close, father-son type relationship
between the two, pending more definitive evidence.
