Benjamin and brother? were in Anson Co. NC in 1763 for a tax
digest. Benjamin received a land grant in 1769 in what is
now Laurens Co. SC, got another one in 1773, and then moved
up to Greenvillle Co. when those lands opened up. William
stayed in Greenville as did Keziah.

The Mauldin City history begins with Benjamin Griffith's
land grant of 100 acres on June 18, 1784. Mauldin was known
as Butler's Crossroads prior to 1886 when Lt. Governor W.L.
"Pope" Mauldin arranged for the railroad to pass through
town, and in his honor, the train depot and post office were
named Mauldin.
