Independent Study--Genocide in the Twentieth Century

What is genocide? Click here for several definitions.

Assignment: Choose three instances of genocide from the list below. For each genocide complete a 4-6 page, typed, double spaced, paper that addresses the following questions:

When did this event occur? Where did it occur?
Which group or groups were victims? Approximately how many people were killed?
Which group or groups were the perpetrators?
What were the historical circumstaces surrounding the genocide?
Why did it occur?
What was the response of the international community to the genocide?

Requirements:

Before you choose this independent study, you must speak to your guidance counselor to obtain permission. This is a .5 (1/2) credit course.
You must speak to me and sign an independent study contract.
You must meet with me at least once each week during period 6 so we can discuss your progress. If you cannot meet with me you must email me.
For each paper, you must use at least three primary and three secondary sources. Your paper must include a bibliography.
You must properly cite your sources.
