Inspiring his international audience in China with some leaps of imagination, Doctor Hawking drew images of the process of space-time
as though it could be pictured in the mind as strings of mini universes that expand and collapse, much like strings of bubbles
appearing and bursting. Only universal structures able to grow to a certain size are able to withstand collapse — and
these survivors continue to expand at an ever accelerating rate! In these cosmic processes there are none of the beginnings
and no endings as there are in space-time processes and thus, cosmic processes are called eternal.

On his speech synthesizer from his wheelchair,
Mr. Hawkins, 64, narrated a demonstration that the illusion of time can be dealt with in consciousness with the same methods
that science has blown away the idea of the edge of the world that terrified many a sailor. Using an image of a globe of Earth,
Hawking imagined the South Pole as the universal beginning point with the lines of latitude on the globe representing time.
"As one moves north, the circles of constant latitude, representing the size of the Universe, would expand.” Hawking
said. “To ask what happened before the beginning of the Universe would become a meaningless question because there is
nothing south of the South Pole."

These modern days, he says, are the days following
the enlightenment of the general theory of relativity and also after the discovery that the Universe we know is expanding
rapidly in space-time. Following these developments, the conceptual framework of science can no longer support the idea of
a Universe that is ever-existing and ever-lasting. It is an untenable idea. Universe and time come into being in the instant
of a Big Bang and time comes to a terminal nonbeing in black holes.
Is it a miracle how the survivors always make
it through just by not collapsing?
On a cheery note in conclusion and over the
top, the realms of universal beginnings and endings are the realms of spontaneous quantum creation while the beginnings of
a Universe (from the” South Pole”) is governed by the laws of science, once it (one) learns not to collapse.
