My Brother gave my daughter a Lorrie Fair bobble head doll for her birthday and that was the first we heard of the team.
We were not aware of the team until the 2002 season was just about over, but I book marked their webpage http://www.philadelphiacharge.com and checked it over the following winter. We attended a Scrimage vs Maryland in 2003, what a great day to be watching soccer.
Then we attended a Women's soccer festival in Allentown, PA there the charge were playing a college all star team(The
team they were supposed to play originally backed out) After the game the Charge had a soccer clinic and all the players participated.
They gave out autograph books signed by the entire team. It was such a great time.
We spent the entire season at each Charge game, except one
My Daughter joined the fan club and went to several Fan Club events, the picture on the home page was taken
at the Pizza Party.
Needless to say, since then we have watched numrous Women's soccer games and some men's games.
I find the women to play a better short passing game and 1v1. The technical aspect of the womens game is far superior
to the mens game.
Don't get me Wrong, I do watch Men's Soccer but although it is faster, I don't find it as enjoyable as the Women's game
Anyway, I have been on the message boards as Soccerdad, Soccerfather and Chargefan. I follow the womens game and to see
Mia Hamm play live has been really cool.
Hopefully, I can get a lot of coaches to realize that playing the game is not enough. For players
to get better, they need to watch Soccer at high levels.
That statement is why I believe in the WUSA.
I am not trying to raise a champion, I want girls that have strong role models and a true enjoyment
of soccer that they can carry with them through life. If they choose to persue soccer and dedicate themselves, it is their
choice. I want them to have fun and not pushed about going into premier or ODP leagues as these are horrible for development
and more concerned about Wins and losses than anything else
Yet, at a game, some members of the U-19 team were overheard asking who Marinette Pichon was - now that is sad,
but it is the attitude being tought by coaches at this time
My Pet peeve is that most coaches do not encourage players to attend games and barely watch the
Higher level of soccers being played, yet parents push their kids and coaches rant at them from the sidelines.
During her games, I turn on my MP3 players and take pictures. I do not want to hear what is being
said to the kids and I can distance myself from the team, I just wish all parents would do that.
At the end of the games I say to my girl "Did you have fun?"
and I leave asap without speaking to the other parents about the game (maybe it is the reff in me
that does not want to stick around)
This is for My family's passion for soccer. My Daughter is playing travel soccer now because
she cannot get enough games in Rec soccer. (4 games scheduled all last season)
My Wife is a Maniac Soccer Mom.
I have my E liscence for coaching, My Grade 8 Referee liscence. I go to clinics once or twice a
year.
At her age level, everything should be about FUN, Skills and development. Not only about winning.
This is where the coaches LOSE players and turn them away from playing.
Our favorite team to cheer for is the NJ Wildcats
My Daughters favorite player is Lorrie Fair & Heather O'Reilly
Mine is Karyn Hall and Karina LeBlanc
My Wifes is Jenny Benson
Through the Charge, Wildcats and various functions we have attended, we have been able to meet a
great many high level Soccer players and it is aways fantastic to make new friends
We have met all of the Wildcats players.
