The Ca De Bou, or the Mallorquin Bulldog (Perro de Presa Mallorquin) , is a recreation or a reconstruction of a Spanish breed gone extinct. Some say this breed is a total reconstruction and that those who brought the breed to life used other breeds and created a breed in the image of the Ca De Bou. Others say the breed was developed using the last remaining Ca De Bou in Spain and breeding it to other breeds. Some say there were a few left and the modern stock was produced using these last remaining dogs. Hard to say for sure but I think I am most inclined to go with the "total reconstruction" theory.
That doesn't mean this is a bogus breed, mind you. The story of the Ca De Bou is not a "Cane Corso" type story (ie "Sure, they've always been here. You just never noticed!") The history being offered is a more or less honest one and there's nothing wrong with creating a new breed, as long as you're honest about what you've done.
