This is an interesting picture of a young, male Neapolitan Mastiff. The man in the picture was Luigi Puca, business partner of my old friend Tony Jacovine's Grandfather, Amodio Dell'Omo. The two partners were in the cheese business together and they owned a store at 131 Mott Street in New York City. The dog's name translates into English as "all drool" and would be pronounced "turto wvallo" in dialect. This picture was taken just about 1927 in front of the cheese shop.
Tony and I went down to Mott Street together recently to see what the old cheese store had become. It is a Chinese fish market today.
This 160 pound Neo bitch belongs to an old buddy of mine. I felt like taking a walk for I grabbed the dog's leash and started walking the streets of New York City. I had to cut the walk short because I got tired of traffic stopping and people hanging out the windows of their cars to ask me questions about the dog.
This is Neapolitan Mastiff "Paestor of the Thatched Roof". I met this dog at a big F.C.I. show in the town of Eindhoven, Holland very recently. It's a fine Neo.
This Neapolitan Mastiff. belongs to a guy named Danny of Staten Island, New York City, U.S.A.
The Neapolitan is a difficult to own, short lived breed but if I had as much land as I feel one should have to own one of these dogs, I'd run out and buy one tomorrow. I love this breed.
