This is my son, Alex pictured with Serena of DogStar kennels in California and "Ishi", one of her Tosa bitches. I snapped this shot on my front lawn when Serena and Steve Ostuni stopped by to visit with this dog one day a few years ago. Dog men Todd Fenstermacher and Gerry Pleasant happened to be over that day too. It was a fun "dog day."
I snapped this shot down at the A.R.B.A. show in Washington D.C. a few May's ago. This Tosa, "Ryoma", is a big male dressed in a "Yokozuna" apron. I don't know that it was a true "Yokozuna" but I do believe it was out of Yokozuna stock. It was co-owned by Dog Star Kennels and Steve Ostuni's "East West Trading".
Here's an old picture taken at the Tosatoken Fighting Center in Kochi. Tosa matches are Sumo-like events
that are often well attended and which follow very strict rules. The commonly asked question "Which is a better fighting dog, the pit
bull or the Tosa" is really not a very meaningful one because the events for which these two breeds were developed are very
different. It is better to simply appreciate each breed for what it is than to waste one's time comparing apples to oranges.
