Commander Benedetto is fluent in several foreign languages. During
his attendance at the Merchant Marine Academy, he was called upon, on several occasions, by Academy Superintendent,
Rear Admiral Thomas King, USMS, and other senior officials, to serve as linguistic interpreter for visiting foreign
dignitaries. He was subsequently assigned an overseas diplomatic assignment.
