Friday - April 28:   In Philadelphia at the Penn Relays Leigh Smith of Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons won the boys high school javelin throw with a throw of 213-8. Smith won by over five feet.


April 21 - April 22:   DeAnne Davis (formerly of Burlington Cummings High School) was the top individual scorer (34 points) at the 2000 ACC Outdoor Championships. She won the Triple Jump and 400 meters hurdles, finished second in the long jump and third in the 100 meters hurdles. The record holder for individual state championships (14 outdoors and 8 indoors) while at Cummings made All-ACC in all four events while provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the triple jump and both hurdles.


April 20 - April 22:   In the Southern Conference Championships, Shane Austin (former Watauga runner) won the 5,000m and Ben Bissette (formerly of East Meck) was second in the 10,000. Both made all-conference for Appalachian State University. Former Watauga runner Ryan Woods placed 2nd in the 5,000 at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships to make All-ACC for NCSU.


April 20 - April 22:   Former Sun Valley runner Erin Howard earned All-Conference honors at the Southern Conference outdoor track finals in Boone. Howard competes in the 800m and 1500m for Furman University.


Friday - April 7:   Stephen Haas (North Mecklenburg) ran a 9:11.30 3200m -- one of the fastest 3200s ever run by a NC prep runner -- in the Texas Relays High School 3200m. Top four finishers:

Saturday - April 1:   Apex Relays: Southeast Raleigh girls' 4x800 relay set a new meet and stadium record with a time of 9:48.1. The team consisted of Jenna Giroux, Jessa Giroux, Ashley Caldwell and Ashley Jackson. Their time is the fastest in the state this season. The previous Apex Relays record was 9:57.3 and the Apex stadium record was 9:54.0.


Saturday - April 1:   A noteworthy 1600m relay split was turned in Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons' Chris Elder in the Distance Medley at the Apex Relays. Elder anchored his team with a 4:22. Cardinal Gibbons beat the second place team by 11 seconds in 10:38.9.


Friday - March 31:   Watauga High School's Ricky Brookshire and Brian Greer competed in the college/open Raleigh Relays in the 5000m run. Both runners scored PR's with Brookshire turning in a 14:48 and Greer a 15:25. Cardinal Gibbons' Pete Guerdan, a junior, ran a 34:45.7 in the 10,000 meters.
