Trentino

A land of 6,200 square kilometers among the mountains in the heart of the Alps, for centuries the crossroads and the link between northern Europe and the Mediterranean. The main routes by which you can reach Trentino are the Brenner railway or autostrada running from the north to south thru the wide Valle dell'Adige. The alpine passes link the regions of Lombardy and Veneto by the Tonale and Mendola state roads (for the Sole and Non Valleys) and the Dolomites (for the Fiemme and Fassa Valleys).

In Trentino, perhaps the most widely known mountains in the world, the Dolomites, turn fiery red at sunset under the reflection of the sunlight on the horizon. Many other peaks are mirrored in the 297 lakes and crown the 177 glaciers that have ensured an abundant supply of water, the great wealth of this land for thousands of years.

Trento, the capital is 90 kilometers from the Catullo airport in Verona; 195 from Marco Polo airport in Venice, and 245 kilometers from Linate airport in Milan. Buses and the Trento-Male and Valsugana railways serve the smallest valley centers, so it is easy to reach and vacation in the Trentino.

Val di Non

Every year about 300 million kilos of apples (Golden Delicious and Renette Canada) are picked in Trentino; with most of the production coming from the Valle di Non. The people of this valley owe their fortune to apples and a thriving agriculture, although tourist activity has contributed considerably to their economy as well. The Valle di Non is the most populated valley in the province of Trento with approximately 38 thousand inhabitants. The valley extends from the Rocchetta gorge, at the side of Valle dell'Adige and the Piana Rotaliana, to the Palade and Mendola mountain passes going to Alto Adige. Among the most noted mountains surrounding the valley are the Maddalene Chain and the Brenta Group. The Roen and Peller peaks offer impressive panoramic vistas of the whole Trentino.

Cheese excells among the local products (such as Grana Trentino) and many kinds of sausages. Valle di Non is one of the Trentino areas where the "gropel" grape is still harvested to make the characteristic mountain wine. Craftwork, especially woodworking is another vital product of the region.
