This high current AC power supply is very useful for providing a controllable output current. It finds application in two very simple devices, the degausser and the foam cutter.
The degaussing device requires the AC component of the device to applie a large oscillating magnetic field that has the ability to remove the magnetic fields from magnetized objects. (Very useful if you have ever seen the effects of a magnet on a TV or monitor.
As a foam cutter the current source is also useful for providing a large amount of current necessary to heat a piece of resistive filament, in this case nichrome wire. The hot wire then cuts through foam without the mess usually associated with cutting foam.
